Spanish Club Banquet

Every year SCHS Spanish Club presents the student body and their families a celebration of the end of the year. The celebration consists of a variety of aspects of Hispanic culture like food, dancing, décor and atmosphere. The banquet requires of a lot of hard work that comes from the students who are a part of the club. Spanish Club has a huge variety of students, and it is one of the biggest clubs in our school with our memberships reachings numbers of 150-plus members in the past years. We are a student-led organization, so most of our events are planned out by the officers and students. It’s a lot of work to put together a banquet, but with the huge group of students we have, we put together a great banquet this year.

I am a Spanish Club officer this year and all of our officers this year have put in a lot of work and I would like to give you some insights into what this year’s banquet looked like this time around.

This year has been a weird one to say the least, but as Spanish club, we have a reputation of creating so many opportunities for students to be a part of the Hispanic culture, which is what has always been our motivation, upholding our title. I’d like to believe we did an good job this year, even through all the hurdles that were put in front of us. This year we only had a month to plan the banquet because of the long approval process that said we were even allowed to provide anything for the students and their families. We needed a lot of hands and even getting help could sometimes be stressful but so many of our students donated so much. We are very thankful to those students who provided desserts, food, drinks and even our music. We can’t forget about our dancers who worked so hard to put together dances in such a small amount of time, and the great help from our choreographer who spent her time to teach our students.

Every year for banquet, students create dances to perform at the celebration and it’s always lots of fun but it does take a lot of time to perfect. This year, time was limited, so we were practicing everyday, hoping that we would get to provide students and families entertainment. This year we were lucky enough to have a choreographer donate her time to teach students a couple of dances. She is a very talented, fierce, and ambitious leader. Our students stayed on their toes and perfected a lot steps within a matter of hours that they were practicing. There were a couple of bumps to the head, toes stepped on but the students persevered nonetheless: the final product was executed beautifully.

We also provide food and this year we had a lot of help from the families of one of our officers, Jared Rojas and lets not forget our very own staffulty Mrs. Anika. She is our translator here at SCHS and her family donated to us their services in preparing food for all of the attendees.

We can’t forget the students who stepped up this year like Amy Razo, Sabina Rico who both provided desserts and cake. We also had students who had never been in Spanish Club like Emilin Olivares, Jonathan Medel, Makayla Jordan and the list goes on of students who helped. We had days where students would stay after school until 7 pm making decorations so this banquet was a lot of hard work but everyone pitched in, in one way or another.
