The Three Pointer Games of SCHS

On January 26th, 2023, Shelbyville Central High School had three basketball games that morning. First, it was the freshmen versus the juniors, then the seniors versus the sophomores, and lastly, the juniors versus the seniors. Three exciting basketball games played by both actual basketball players at SCHS and other students that had signed up to play. Though with the skills they all had, the students who had “signed up” may actually have been scouted.

Freshman VS. Juniors

The Freshmen played first against the Juniors, which, most would agree, was a great start to the three games that the student-volunteer players all played that day. The Freshmen had their shirts in their designated school color, with a white basketball on the front and the number 26 on the back. However, the Juniors wore their white shirts, despite their grade color being gold/yellow, that had the Space Jam theme on it with the word “Juniors” written on the front, and the number 24 printed on the back. The juniors ended up winning with 21 points while freshman were only four points behind them at 17, which meant that the freshman would not play another game and instead, the juniors would play whoever won the next game.

The next game was Sophomores versus Seniors. The Sophomores had on just white t-shirts with the number 25 duck-taped to their backs — with some actually falling off mid-game. As for the Seniors, they wore white-shirts underneath the school’s jerseys, as they were blue, which was the Senior’s designated school color. The game went by quickly, and it was very close by the end of it when the Seniors got two points in the last five seconds of the game, winning by only one point. The game ended 20 to 19, and with the Seniors being the winner, they were to play in the last game against the winner of the first game — the Juniors.

In the final game for that day, the Juniors were up against the Seniors who had just barely won the last game with a lucky shot. This game was probably the most anticipating game of all three, but it also started off with an injured player. In the first couple minutes of the first half of the game, player Sam Campbell, one of the Seniors, took a hard fall on his knee, taking him out for the rest of the game. Campbell had actually gotten four three-pointers in total in the games he played in. However, this did not stop the Seniors from winning. Antwan Purified, one of the Seniors, shot one last shot just before the timer went off, making their already 20 points jump up to 23, even though they were still farther than the Juniors. After a very nerve-wracking game, the Seniors won 23 to 19 against the Juniors, meaning that the game on the following day, they will be playing against the Dream Team — a.k.a. the staff of SCHS.
